ATHENS, Ga. ? Police in Georgia arrested a career shoplifter this week after an unusual romp through a Piggly Wiggly store.
The Athens Banner-Herald says Lonneshia Shafaye Appling was caught putting items in a bag. When employees tried to stop her, she punched one, spit at another, and sprayed mace at yet another before running out of the back of the store. Store employees say she sprayed so much pepper spray that the entire supermarket had to be ventilated with fans.
A police report says Appling was later arrested by an officer who just happened to be in the area. The police report says Appling tried to steal several cans of Coors Light, vegetable oil, five packs of cheese, five packs of bacon, and two packs of chicken wings.
Appling has several prior convictions for shoplifting and was wanted on various shoplifting charges throughout the area. A police report obtained by the Web site The Smoking Gun says Appling asked the arresting officer to make the report ?more interesting? so that it would be featured in the local media. She also suggested the workers ?shouldn?t chase people like that because they could get themselves hurt.?
