Our client has its origins in Japanese culture where hard work, commitment to excellence and mutual respect are the cornerstones of their interpersonal engagement. This is an existing position that has become vacant due to the resignation of the?previous incumbent who was instrumental in the establishment of many of the?company?s policies for their South African operation beginning 12 years ago.?The HR systems are well established in the Company and the role will be to maintain and develop existing systems to meet the changing needs of the business.

?You will report to the Japanese President and work directly with a multicultural management team so sensitivity to diversity issues, the ability to communicate well with the Japanese and the ability to adapt to the Japanese culture are essential.

?The purpose of the position is to manage all aspects of the HR function in the Company in support of the strategic objectives of the business and to advise Top Management on all HR related matters.

?The Key Result Areas will include:

  • Aligning the HR strategy with the overall business strategy
  • Managing all aspects of a broad HR Generalist function ? including
  • Recruitment & Selection
  • Learning & Development
  • Employee Relations
  • Performance Management
  • Remuneration
  • Policy formulation
  • HR Admin & Systems
  • Organisational Development
  • Employee Wellness
  • Outsourced service providers, including Payroll
  • BBBEE
  • Budgeting
  • Advising Top Management on all HR related matters
  • Managing the HR Team

?The primary motivator offered by this appointment is the opportunity to join a dynamic world class company and to gain exposure to sophisticated and entrenched quality management systems. The other is the opportunity to have high influence/impact where the role of?HR is highly regarded by Line Management, hence presenting?opportunities to introduce new HR ideas and concepts, though operations finding time to implement HR initiatives is at times challenging.

?Other?challenges of the role will include?being accepted into a well established Management team, most of whom have worked together for 11+ years and the need to quickly become familiar with the business and key factors influencing the HR function. Strict compliance to the company wide QA system also places quite a heavy administrative burden?on the job.

?We are looking for a person with:

  • A tertiary qualification in an HR related field (Psych or Industrial Psych).?Post graduate qualification would be ideal
  • 8 ? 10 years? strong generalist HR experience
  • Successful HR Management track record (min 5 years)
  • Depth in terms of HR knowledge and expertise
    • ability to anticipate and understand the impact of HR processes on the broader business;
    • ability to provide direction, initiate and evaluate proposals from specialist service providers
    • Experience gained in an ISO accredited manufacturing environment & good appreciation and understanding of manufacturing operations
    • Motor Industry experience would be a distinct advantage
    • Practical experience in handling people issues and transformation in multicultural and unionised environments.
