US: Illinois State Representative says gay couples have 'disordered ...

A representative in the US state of Illinois has taken what she called a ?courageous? stance against equal marriage, and defended ?natural? marriage, by saying gay people have ?disordered relationships?.

Speaking on the Catholic Conference of Illinois Radio, Jeanne Ives, the Representative for Springfield, District 42, said that she would rather not talk about equal marriage, but that the issue kept coming up.

She said: ?It?s unfortunate that actually that?s the issue that we have to talk about in Springfield? You deal with the issues that are given to you. This issue is going to be brought up ? they are trying to redefine marriage ? it is a completely disordered relationship.

?When you have a disordered relationship, you don?t ever get order out of that, so I am more than happy to take the no vote on the issue of homosexual marriage.?

In a?separate?section of the show, links to which appeared on Good As You, she said that gay people were trying to ?weasel their way into acceptability?, and spoke about her opposition to adoption rights for gay and lesbian couples.

She said: ?I?m more than happy to stand up and take the courageous vote here on this issue, because it?s the right thing to do. Essentially what they?re trying to do is not just redefine marriage, they?re trying to redefine society.

?They?re trying to weasel their way in to acceptability so they can start to push their agenda down into the schools because this them some sort of legitimacy. We can?t allow that to happen.

?The rights to marriage, what marriage is, is really a natural right. I?m preaching to the choir here, I?m sure you?ve heard all that before. We all know that, you don?t even have to go through the religious argument, but you can if you want to.

?It is the natural right of the child to be with both parents. Either in an adoptive nature, or in a biological nature, and to not have a mother and a father, is really a disordered state for a child to be in. It really makes the child an object of desire, rather than the result of a matrimony.?

On her website, the biography for the Republican former US Army member, reads: ?A?mother of five, Jeanne Ives currently serves as a well-respected and active member of the Wheaton City Council.

?Married 23 years, Jeanne and her husband Paul have chosen to live their lives and raise their family in a way that reflects both the disciplines of both their Christian values and military code of honor.

?Jeanne consistently offers both time and talent as a coach and volunteer in her children?s schools and activities.?

In late February, the House Executive Committee barely cleared a bill to legalise same-sex marriage in Illinois.

The committee narrowly advanced the legislation with a 6-5 approval to the full House where it is expected to face its toughest?test,
